Freelance - SEO Ghost Writer

June 2020 - Dec. 2020

While working as a freelance contractor, I gained experience writing search engine optimized content for reputable, national businesses and crafting 300-word works based on keyword research.

The Pregnancy Network - Blogger

Sept. 2019 - Feb. 2020

Writing for a nonprofit gave me a new perspective. It’s not journalism or standard marketing. At the Pregnancy Network, it’s all about education and inspiration for parents experiencing unplanned pregnancies. This specific audience requires language that is clear, relatable and free of Christian jargon. The Pregnancy Network gave me the opportunity to share my story as well as create content to draw organic traffic to their free services.

Furnitureland South - Copywriter

Oct. 2017 - April 2021

While writing for the world’s largest furniture store, I gained experience working within the guidelines of and expanding a preexisting brand voice.

During Furnitureland South’s 50th anniversary, the marketing team was tasked with celebratory language and graphics. Blogs reminisced with longest-standing employees and championed the changes that grew a company from a truck and a catalog to a furniture store that’s since been called the Disney World of the furniture industry.

During this time, our team took on two major website overhauls. This allowed me to work with colleagues and professionals outside of our organization to take a look at our site’s user experience and rewrite the website from the ground up.

My most frequent and consistent task at FLS was writing copy for sales and marketing emails — writing up to 5 emails per week to various lists and hundreds of thousands of inboxes.

UNC-CH, School of Media & Journalism

Class of 2016

While studying journalism and reporting at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I was given the opportunity to write for the Durham VOICE and the Carrboro Commons.

During my time as a Durham VOICE staff writer, I was privileged to meet and interview Ann Atwater, a renown civil rights leader in Durham, North Carolina. During an interview, she mentioned a movie that was in the works about her work integrating the Durham school system.

My journalism experience allowed me to communicate with people from different places and cultural experiences. In 2019, I heard her story again – this time on the big screen. The people of Northeast Central Durham have a story to tell. For a short time, I was able to work with students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina Central University to provide a platform for this underrepresented community.

DTH | University Staff Writer & Digital Desk Senior Staffer

Sept. 2014 - Feb. 2016

The Daily Tar Heel was the first publication to give me an opportunity to write for a public platform. This was the paper that taught me to work with an editor, gave me the opportunity to practice within a real-world context and gave the confidence to represent a larger organization when interviewing sources that held positions with great authority and community influence. During my time at the DTH, I worked for the University Desk and the Digital Desk covering topics as broad as sea turtles, video gamers and the Silent Sam memorial controversy.

CNN | Cross-platform Planning Intern

Summer 2015

During a phone interview with CNN’s senior producer for cross-platform news planning and special projects Kristi Ramsay, I said that sex slavery was an issue I wished appeared more in the mainstream news cycle. As an issue of utmost importance, I felt it wasn’t brought to light enough. While I interned as a cross-platform planning intern at CNN, I was able to cover social media reactions to the documentary Children for Sale featuring Jada Pinkett Smith and more.

I can feel it!

If you’ve ever felt this way, then I can help!

  • I would rather lick the bottom of my neighbor’s shoe than stare at a blank page – again!

  • Whoever said a picture is worth a thousand words has never tried to write a caption on social media.

  • I want to reach my ideal clients and serve my community well, but I can’t do that if they don’t know I exist.
